What borrowing privileges do the St. Thomas Libraries offer?

Undergraduate Students

Books: 56 day loan period; renewable up to a maximum loan period of 112 days.

Note: Loan periods and renewals for Interlibrary Loan items vary.

Graduate Students, Faculty, Staff, Emeriti Faculty

Books:  120 day loan period; renewable up to a maximum loan period of 240 days.

Note: Loan periods and renewals for Interlibrary Loan items vary.

Alumni and Guest Patrons

Books and Music Scores: 6 item limit; 28 day maximum loan period

  • Visitors may use reference materials and services, most electronic databases, and other resources on-site.
  • Alumni are eligible for Alumni Cards which are issued at the Circulation Desk.
  • Neighbors of the University of St. Thomas may be eligible for a Friends of The Library Card. 
    • A Neighbor is any person at least 18 years of age who lives south of I-94, north of St. Clair Avenue, west of Snelling Avenue, and east of the Mississippi River.
  • Alumni Cards and Friends of the Library Cards allow borrowing of materials owned by St. Thomas Libraries only.
  • Interlibrary Loan services are only available for current students, faculty, and staff. Contact your local public library to make Interlibrary Loan requests.

Audiovisual Materials

  • Undergraduate and Graduate Students: 4 item (DVDs, CDs, or equipment) limit; 7 day loan period; renewable up to a maximum loan period of 14 days.
  • Faculty, Staff, and Emeriti Faculty: 10 audio and 10 visual item limit; 7 day loan period; renewable up to a maximum loan period of 14 days.
  • Alumni and Guest Patrons: In-house use only.

Friends of the Law Library

Law Library books only: 3 item limit; 28 day maximum loan period

MTLA Consortium

Ireland Library books only: Item limit varies; 42 days maximum loan period

Course Reserves

Loan periods for items on Course Reserve vary depending on the material. Most items on Course Reserve cannot be taken out of the library.
